Shapantong is a small village inhibited by the tribe called Kabui or Rongmei in Imphal west 1, Manipur.

Shapantong is a small Kabui village located in Konthoujam Sub Division of Imphal West district, Manipur with total of around 32 families residing. The Shapantong village has population of 342 of which 159 are males while 171 are females as per Population Census 2011.
In Shapantong village population of children with age 0-6 is 12 which makes up 7.45 % of total population of village. Average Sex Ratio of Shapantong village is 1023 which is higher than other village average of 985. Child Sex Ratio for the Konthoujam as per census is 856, lower than other village average of 930.
Shapantong village has higher literacy rate compared to other. In 2011, literacy rate of this village was 86.78 % compared to 76.94 % of other. In Shapantong Male literacy stands at 94.01 % while female literacy rate was 79.89 %.

Lifestyle Of People
Shapantong villages have a very beautiful and attractive lifestyle. They are free from the hustle and bustle life of a city , and love a peaceful, calm, quite and full of greenery life where one can breathe fresh air. Village beauties are described by the way villagers happily live in the small huts, made by clay or mud. This village has big open area with a beautiful trees at the front and a green vegetable garden at the backyard, surrounded by the bamboos. Most of them are socially knit together, every evening they love to assemble in the village “meeting” with their thought and chatting and talking goes on till late the night.
Most of the people living in this village are farmers, other works as carpenters, blacksmith and mason. Bull’s are common for using in farming and other activity in field. Women work planting the rice paddy, while the men work pulling bullock carts, tilling new soil etc.
Religion, Festival and Food
People of Shapantong village believes on Ting-Kao- Rangwang ( The God of Kabui Tribe) and they celebrate a festival called Gang Gai, It is a religious and cultural festival. The festival starts on the 13th day of the Manipuri month of Wakching every year (December- January). This was fixed in 1947 by the Kabui Samiti (now Zeliangrong Union). The festival is celebrated from five to seven days depending on local variations. On this festival, the villager love to gather in same place and serve the delicious Kabui dishes like : Pork fat, Cow meat and different type of fish dishes. They performed their cultural dance-song and talent show at the end of festival.
